Saturday March 5th saw the annual running of The Belvoir Challenge. This event compromises a 16 mile race and a separate race over the marathon distance. The weather was ideal for winter running-overcast and cool at the start, but the rainfall over the previous few weeks would mean that the going would be tough over the predominantly off road course.
The Gold Tops had one runner brave the full distance.Tim Swan Smith,in the middle of an intensive racing block-he competed in The Sleaford Half Marathon two weeks ago,has The Norwich Half next weekend and The Grantham Half the week after, turned in a great performance to secure 30th place in a time of 4hrs 4mins.Good Running Tim!!
Two runners settled for the easier(!) option of the 16 mile event.Dennis Rainbow finished 3rd in a time of 1hr 54 mins, while David Johnson, continuing his good preparation for the upcoming London Marathon, finished in a time of 2hr 25 mins, wiping 35 minutes off of his previous best for the Belvoir Short Course.
This really is a good race.Over 1100 runners and walkers participated in the two races and the food at the end is to be savoured.Unlimited tea and coffee, soup and rolls, followed by a pudding of choice(lovely apple crumble and custard!!) are all included as part of the entry fee.A nice touch and definately an event to recommend.
Great race, will be back next year for sure.
